| Marshall Plan and the OEEC |
| The Marshall plan supplied millions of dollars of US aid to Britain, which was partioned out by the Organization for European Economic Co-operation (OEEC). This money was to keep Europe strong so they could resist communism. |

| Berlin Blockade and Airlift |
| After the partioning of Germany, France, Briatin and the USA decided to unite their sections. This act, along with the continued policy of containment, made the USSR very unhappy. To get back at the nations, the USSR blocked off Berlin (which was also devided between the powers but which lied in the center of USSR dominated East Germany). To get supplies over to Berlin, the USA began airlifting goods into Berlin. Eventually, when the USSR saw that their blockade was having no effect, they removed it. |

| In 1948, Czechoslovakia was almost completely independent. It had just elected a government when communist revoltuionaries forced the new government out and took it's place. |

| The Palestinian war |
| In 1897 at the world Zionist Conference, it was decided that Palestine was to become a Jewish Natinal homeland. This was reafirmed by Britain with the Balfour Declaration. Palestine had been devided by the League of Nations into two areas, the Palestinian area and the the Jewisn area. This naturally lead to a war between the arab people and the Jewish people. Thein Jewish people obtained most of Paletine in this war and the Palestinians were either "forced" out or "fled", neither is safe to say. |
