Sinking of the Lusitania
The Lusitania, a British liner carrying 124 Americans (among others), was sunk by two German missiles in neutral waters. This act angered the Americans and pushed American sympathy to the Triple Entente.

The battle of Gallipoli was an attempt made by British troops during WWI to clear a path through Turkish troops to the Black Sea. This would open a new front against Germany and a way to supply Russia.
